Today’s Musical Monday hits the hot topic of life changes. Many who read this blog are facing big life changes, and we can all use a reminder to take things in stride.
Thomas Rhett’s hit country tune Life Changes is a very personal autobiographical song about his rapidly changing life.
Rhett’s Life Changes album debuted at number one on the BillBoard 200 in 2017. It was the first country album to top the chart last year. The title track off the Life Changes album was released on April 16, 2018.
Life Changes is an upbeat summary of Rhett’s rise to fame, marriage to someone he met in first grade, the adoption of a baby girl from Uganda and the birth of his other daughter. Rhett has more to sing about than the average 28 year old.
From the time that this song was recorded to it’s release, Rhett and his wife Lauren finalized the adoption of their daughter Willa Gray from Uganda and three months later Lauren gave birth to their daughter Ada James. A radio edit lyric change was made to the song to reflect these life changes. The changes for Rhett continue, but I guess that’s the point of the song.
“Ain't it funny how life changes
You wake up, ain't nothing the same and life changes
You can't stop it, just hop on the train, and
You never know what's gonna happen
You make your plans and you hear God laughing”
~Thomas Rhett, Life Changes
Dealing with life changes is the number one reason that clients come to me for life coaching. The only thing that is certain, besides death and taxes, is that things change constantly.
Whether it’s identifying a new purpose in retirement years, starting a new career search or finding a way forward when personal tragedy strikes, life transitions are challenging.
Even though we fundamentally understand that things change often, it can be difficult to maintain flexibility in the face of uncertainty. Flexibility allows us to see multiple options and evaluate different courses of action. Having a life coach to help bring options into view and maintain focus on your goals can ease any transition.
With a positive attitude and some help along the way, life changes can indeed be something to sing about.
